What and why?The main goal of the ECO-TRIP campaign is to raise awareness among youngsters on eco-friendly or sustainable trips. To involve young people in the campaign, we ask them to create their own short movie on ECO-TRIP. By doing this, we hope and expect to raise enthusiasm amongst them and their peers on this theme and to give them tools to form their own opinion on sustainable transport.
ECO-TRIPs around Europe15,854 children from all over Europe have taken part in the Traffic Snake Game so far and accomplished exemplary school trips by walking, skating, scooting, biking, taking the bus or car-sharing.
This is where we would like to show you how successful you were! For this reason we created a map showing you all countries that took part in the Traffic Snake Game within the framework of the CONNECT project as well as the route of environmentally friendly trips leading through these countries.
The challenge is to cross through all CONNECT countries. To achieve this all children, participating in the Traffic Snake Game, should accomplish as many eco-friendly trips as possible. The starting point is the Bulgarian town of Varna and the destination is London in the United Kingdom. There are numerous towns and cities to visit and to discover along the way. Just click on a town and you’ll get interesting information about the respective CONNECT partner country.
The journey from Varna to London is divided into three stages: the first part from Varna to Miskolcs (Hungary) has already been accomplished successfully in the school year 2007/08. However, the participants of the Traffic Snake Game still have two stages ahead of them: from Miskolcs to Modena (Italy) and from Modena to London.
Join us on our ECO-TRIP journey that will lead us across the whole of Europe. Let’s find out and marvel together about different countries achieving different milestones!
The ranking below discloses the three best countries and the number of eco-friendly school trips they’ve already accomplished.
The ECO-TRIP campaign consists of 4 steps:
The first step is a debate to introducing the participating classes and students in the campaign aim. During this debating session the modal split will be measured, in some way all students will need to indicate how they travel to and from school every day.
The second level to become an ECO-TRIP is the creation and production of a short movie by the students themselves.
Level three is the ECO-TRIP week. In this week the whole school will try to travel to and from school in an eco-friendly way. During the ECO-TRIP week there will be a measurement to see if the eco-friendly trips have increased, compared to the situation before the project. Furthermore, in this week a slogan contest will be held, to create involvement of students from all classes. Schools are very welcome to organise any other theme-related activity in this week.
The last step of the campaign is the final event. This will be a national and international short movie contest.
A European campaign! While implementing the ECO-TRIP campaign you are part of a European campaign. The campaign will be conducted in different countries in Europe by a select group of secondary schools in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, The Netherlands and United Kingdom.
To see which schools do already participate in the ECO-TRIP campaign please look at `My School´ at the youth section.
Have you been selected as a pilot school for the Eco-Trip campaign? If yes, please register your school! After registration you will receive a password for the internal download-centre for teachers. There you can find the necessary campaign and information materials (e.g. the manual) as well as helpful suggestions for other school mobility management measures.
